THE FANFIC WRITERS’ PRAYER |
|||
Dear (insert name of deity) Please help me to remember that writing fanfiction is a non profit-making hobby. Please don’t let good feedback go to my head. Help me to keep my feet on the ground, even when I receive floods of positive comments. Help me to understand that other people’s lives do not necessarily revolve around the reading of my stories. Please don’t let me act like it’s the end of the world when I get negative feedback. Help me to remember that it’s just one person’s opinion and if that person doesn’t like my work then it’s their loss. Please don’t let me make too much of a fool of myself by going after compliments for my work. Please don’t let me reach the stage where I think my work is so good that it is literally beyond criticism. Please don’t let me ever arrive at the stage where I think it’s impossible for my writing to get any better. Help me to remember to spare the time to send feedback to other writers and not just wait for comments to roll in about my work. . Help me to understand the meaning of If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat these two imposters the same. Help me not to make the receipt of good feedback the be all and end all of my life. Teach me not to look down on other writers, even if I do secretly think their work is not as good as mine. Help me to remember that I cannot please all of the people all of the time. AMEN (If you enjoyed reading this, why not try the FANFIC READERS’ PRAYER, written by my dear friend Justin A. Minute).
